Nassau County Executive Mangano And Human Rights Commission Hold Vigil For Charlottesville, VA
Nassau County, NY - August 18, 2017 - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano joined District Attorney Madeline Singas, Acting Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, Presiding Officer of the Legislature Norma Gonsalves and members of the Nassau County Commission on Human Rights, at a vigil against discrimination and hate, on the front steps of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building, on Wednesday, August 16th. In response to the events in Charlottesville, Virginia this past weekend, County officials and members of the religious community came together to stand in solidarity with the victims and families, and rebuke violence in all forms.
“We are gathered together in response to the recent incidents of bias crime that occurred in Charlottesville, Virginia,” said County Executive Mangano. “Nassau County will not tolerate any Anti-Semitic or bias crimes should they occur here in our communities. We urge residents to report such incidents to the Nassau County Police Department, so these individuals can be referred to the District Attorney for prosecution.”
