Second Annual Port Jefferson Heritage Weekend on August 20 and 21 from 12 pm to 5 pm.

Port Jefferson, NY - August 15, 2016 - Step back in time and discover the stories behind many of the historical venues in Port Jefferson and Belle Terre.  On Saturday, August 20th and Sunday, August 21 st from 12pm to 5pm, visitors will are invited to experience the Second Annual Port Jefferson Heritage Weekend.

Over 18 locations throughout the Village will host activities, programs, and ceremonies that celebrate the culture, traditions, history and achievements of Port Jefferson. Travel from site to site and discover our rich heritage!

“It is our goal to join forces with our fellow non-profits and organizations that have the common goal of enriching, educating and recognizing the history of our village,” stated Mayor Margot Garant.

Events at each location will consist of presentations, historic photo displays, tours and museum space. The festivities include a 120 year old Lettie G. Howard tall ship to celebrate our shipbuilding heritage, a re-creation of the historic and beloved Grammas' Sweets in a “Pop Up” exhibit on Main Street, Eckford BBC vintage baseball team exhibition game played as per the rules used in 1864, Historical Geocache Hunt presented by the PJ Free Library, Appraisal Day with the PJ Historical Society, Liberty Hot Air Balloon Co. presentation and interactive Night of Spies exhibit!

Take a walking tour and learn about the founding families of Port Jefferson, attend a presentation and discover the unique history of Belle Terre, tour the PJ Fire Department Museum, step inside the original library building, void of all modern technology and experience it as it was in 1908 and view vintage cars at the Village Center with the Ford Model A Club of Long Island on display.

The Heritage Weekend celebration is funded generously in part by the Roberts David Lion Gardiner Foundation and in partnership with the Village of Port Jefferson, Port Jefferson Conservancy and the Port Jefferson Business Improvement District.
