Man Killed in Cement Truck Crash in Bayport

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed the driver of a cement truck in Bayport this morning.

Bayport, NY - August 14th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that killed the driver of a cement truck in Bayport this morning.

John Gagliano was driving a 1990 Mack cement truck eastbound on Sunrise Highway, west of Nicolls Road, when he lost control of the vehicle at 7:39 a.m. The truck struck the median and overturned.  

Gagliano, 57, of Islip Terrace, was ejected from the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The truck, which is owned by Giaquinto Masonry Inc. in Deer Park, was impounded for a safety check by the Suffolk County Police Motor Carrier Safety Section.

Detectives are continuing to investigate whether a mechanical malfunction may have caused the crash. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
