Yaphank, NY - August 7, 2017 - On Tuesday, August 1, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker joined the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County to introduce a new patch program that teaches scouts about the importance of energy conservation, as part of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math initiative (STEM). The event was held at the Discovery World STEM Center at Camp Sobaco in Yaphank. The center offers girls a hands-on approach to exploring STEM through demonstrations, special guest presentations, and more.

“As the former energy director of the Town of Brookhaven, I am pleased to join the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County to unveil the new energy conservation patch program,” said Legislator Anker. “The partnership between PSEG and the Girl Scouts will inspire, motivate, and encourage our girls to explore the exciting paths of STEM.”

The Girl Scouts have partnered with PSEG Long Island for the new program, which teaches girls about the importance of electric safety and energy conservation in the home. The program is the first of its kind to be introduced at the Discovery World STEM Center. For more information about the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County and their patch programs, visit www.gssc.us.
