Riverhead, NY - August 6, 2015 - On Wednesday, August 5th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker attended the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Kickoff Breakfast at the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead. The kickoff breakfast is the start to the “walking season” for Making Strides. Walks are used as fundraisers events that also raise awareness about the severity of breast cancer. The event included a program with stories from survivors of breast cancer and their families.

“I’d like to thank Making Strides for raising awareness about breast cancer,” said Legislator Anker. “Having lost my grandmother to breast cancer, the cause is close to my heart. Raising awareness is the first step towards reducing incidences of the disease.”

The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer will host two Long island Walks: one on October 4th at the Dowling College Brookhaven Campus and one on October 18th at Jones Beach Field 5. To find a Making Strides walk near you, please visit makingstrideswalk.org.
