The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a high wind watch...which is in effect from late Sunday night through late Monday night. * Winds...northeast 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. * Timing...strongest winds will likely occur from mid morning Monday into Monday evening. * Impacts...downed trees and power lines are likely, with numerous power outages possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, and on elevated roads and bridges. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph, or gusts of 58 mph or higher, may occur. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts. , "Storm Watch" ...Storm watch remains in effect from late Sunday night through late Monday night... * winds and seas...east winds 25 to 35 kt with gusts up to 50 kt. Seas 6 to 9 feet...and as high as 9 to 12 feet east of Orient Point. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A storm watch is issued when the risk of storm force winds of 48 to 63 kt has significantly increased...but the specific timing and/or location is still uncertain. Update: Murder Suspect Arrested for Baldwin Shooting

A suspect has been arrested in relation to a shooting that occurred on Saturday, August 02, 2014 at 3:41 am in Baldwin.

Update - September 4, 2014 - The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of Dashawn Wade, 22, of Far Rockaway for the above crime. Defendant Wade was apprehended with the assistance of the US Federal Marshall Task Force on September 4, 2014 at 6:00 am in Hempstead. The defendant is being charged with Murder 2nd Degree and will be arraigned on Friday, September 5, 2014 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
Update - August 4th, 2014 - The deceased victim has been identified as Daquan Gaskin, 22, of Baltimore, Maryland.
 
Baldwin, NY - August 2nd, 2014 - The Homicide Squad is investigating a Shooting that occurred on Saturday, August 02, 2014 at 3:41 am in Baldwin.
 
According to detectives, First Precinct police officers responded to a disturbance in front of Love Jones Café, 1920 Grand Avenue.  Upon arrival officers found two victims, a 39 year old male shot in the leg and a 22 year old male shot in the chest.  Both victims were transported to local hospitals.  The 22 year old victim was pronounced deceased at 4:17 am by hospital staff.  His identification is being withheld pending family notification. The 39 year old victim was treated and released.
 
This investigation is ongoing.
