Bohemia, NY - August 3rd, 2013 - Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Bohemia last evening.
Tiago Teixeira was traveling westbound on Sunrise Highway when his vehicle struck a pedestrian at 10:14 p.m. Teixeira, 27, of Washington, New Jersey, was operating a 2014 International Tractor that was towing a Great Dane trailer.
Gary Abrams, 54, of East Patchogue, who was walking in the middle lane of Sunrise Highway, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
The tractor trailer was examined at the scene by Suffolk County Police Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Safety Units and towed from the scene.
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
