Two Men Arrested in Hempstead for Possession of Crack Cocaine, Weapons

Hempstead, NY - August 1st, 2014 - Narcotics/Vice Bureau detectives report the arrest of two men on July 31, 2014 at 11:21 pm in Hempstead.

According to detectives, members of the Departments CIRRT task force, while traveling on Long Beach Road conducted a vehicle stop after observing a car that violated the Vehicle and Traffic Law. After pulling the car over on Emery Street and approaching the vehicle, detectives observed the passenger making numerous furtive movements while inside the car. The male passenger was then observed removing a black handgun from his pocket, placing it into a black plastic bag and putting it under his seat. He then opened his door and fled the scene on foot. After a short foot pursuit the defendant Darrell Walker, 26, of Fulton Street, Hempstead was apprehended and placed into custody.

Detectives recovered a loaded Hi-Point automatic handgun which was reported stolen by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The vehicles driver, Giovanni Pisano, 57, of Waypark Avenue, Uniondale, was found to be in possession of a crack pipe that contained residue of crack cocaine. He was also placed under arrest at the scene.

Walker is charged Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree.

Pisano is charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. Both defendants will be arraigned in First District Court, Hempstead on 08/01/2014.
