Hauppauge, NY, July 2013 –Legislator Sarah Anker recognized Miller Place resident Chris Pendergast at the July 30th General Meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature. Chris is the Founder and Director of the non-profit organization Ride for Life, named for its annual event where patients with ALS ride their wheelchairs great distances to raise public awareness of the disease and funds for research.

“I am honored to recognize Chris Pendergast,” said Legislator Anker.  “Chris’s success at raising ALS awareness is truly inspirational. His work is a reminder that education can touch the lives of others and bring the community together for a good cause.”

Chris founded Ride for Life in 1998. In recent years, ALS patients rode their wheelchairs from Yankee Stadium to Washington D.C., and from Montauk Point (the tip of Long Island) to Manhattan and helped to raise over 1.5 million dollars. The organization has raised more than $4.5 million dollars since its inception. For more information about Ride for Life, call 631-444-1292.
