Officials: Three Year-Old Child Struck and Killed by Motorist in Hempstead

Hempstead, NY - July 28, 2017 - The Homicide Squad is investigating a Fatal Pedestrian and Vehicle Collision that occurred on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at 9:04 pm in Hempstead.
 
According to detectives, defendant George J. Graydon, 31, of Hempstead, was driving a 2017 Dodge Challenger eastbound through the rear parking lot of 70 Maple Avenue. A three year old male victim was playing on the sidewalk and ran out in front of the vehicle. The driver did stop and attempted to render aid. The victim, Qualique McDaniels was transported to Mercy Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at 9:40 pm by hospital staff. 
 
It was determined that defendant Graydon was driving with a suspended driver’s license. He was placed under arrest at scene. 
 
Defendant Graydon is being charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. He will be arraigned on Friday, July 28, 2017 at First District Court, Hempstead.
 
The investigation is ongoing.
