SCPD Investigates Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash in Port Jefferson Station

Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed an unidentified man in Port Jefferson Station early this morning.

Port Jefferson Station, NY - July 26, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed an unidentified man in Port Jefferson Station early this morning.

A man was driving a gray 2004 Ford Explorer southbound on Route 112, near Washington Avenue, when he apparently lost control of the vehicle at approximately 4:20 p.m. The Explorer crossed into the northbound lane of travel, left the roadway and overturned in a wooded area.

The driver, who has not been identified pending notification to next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
