July 23, 2013 - Central Islip, NY - Suffolk County Legislator Rick Montano (D-Brentwood) presented a proclamation to Adam Pacheco, a Central Islip Senior High School senior, who was chosen as the 2013 David E. Ortiz scholarship recipient.
The David E. Ortiz Scholarship Fund was established to commemorate and memorialize the life of David E. Ortiz, who lost his life in a tragic accident on July 28, 2002. The fund is awarded annually to a Central Islip High School Senior who wishes to further his or her education and attend an accredited college or university upon graduation. To date, the fund has awarded over $30,000 in scholarship monies and emergency community assistance
“I know the value of education and support efforts made by community organizations to encourage students to pursue higher education by providing financial assistance,” said Montano. “I applaud the efforts made by the David E. Ortiz Scholarship Fund to support the dreams of deserving Central Islip students.”
“My Mother and I are so proud of our 2013 recipient Adam Pacheco,” said Renee Ortiz. “His resilience and ability to overcome adversity truly embodies my Brother’s spirit and we know he will go on to achieve great things. Our family is also extremely appreciative of the continued support Legislator Montano has showed the Scholarship Fund throughout the last 10 years,” added Ms. Ortiz
