Calverton, NY - July 21, 2016 - Kent Animal Shelter today announced that it has teamed up with NBC 4 New York / WNBC and Telemundo 47 / WNJU host NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations’ Clear the Shelters second annual nationwide pet adoption drive. Kent Animal Shelter will offer the public no-cost adoptions on dogs and cats 4 years and up on Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24th as part of the nationwide Clear the Shelters initiative that seeks to find new homes for homeless pets.

“If you are wild about puppies, just remember that a good deal of time, effort and patience must go into training, housebreaking etc. It’s a window when your four-legged companion will be readied for adulthood in a well-mannered or problematic way. Too many times people overlook that fact and are compelled to return their pet to a shelter because they have developed bad habits due to lack of training and supervision”, said Pam Green, Director of Kent Animal Shelter.

An alternative to puppy and kitten adoption is to take an adult pet into your home having a clear picture of what the personality actually is and having the benefit of prior history and training. And as you know, puppies and kittens are adults in no time at all they are a product of their caretakers and environment.

This year’s Clear the Shelters event comes after last year’s highly successful inaugural effort, which resulted in nearly 20,000 pets finding new homes through an unprecedented partnership between the NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations and hundreds of animal shelters located all across the country and in Puerto Rico. The nationwide day of action literally emptied dozens of animal shelters across the country and inspired local communities to take action and open their homes to animals in need.
