"Heat Advisory" ...Heat advisory in effect from 11 am to 6 PM EDT Monday... The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a heat advisory...which is in effect from 11 am to 6 PM EDT Monday. * Heat index values...up to 101 due to temperatures in the low to mid 90s and dewpoints in the lower 70s. * Timing...highest heat indices Monday afternoon. * Impacts...the combination of the heat and humidity will increase the risk for heat related health issues...especially for the elderly...those with chronic health problems such as lung and heart disease...those working outdoors...and other heat sensitive groups of people. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A heat advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 100 to 104 degrees for two consecutive hours. To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Personal Watercraft Rider Critically Injured in Crash

Crash occurred in the Lindenhurst Cut of Great South Bay on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at approximately 5:25 p.m.

Suffolk County, NY - July 20, 2014 - Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a crash that critically injured a man riding a personal watercraft today.
 
Roldando Moreno was riding a Yamaha WaveRunner in the Lindenhurst cut of the Great South Bay when he jumped the wake from a boat and crashed into a 23-foot Chapparal boat at approximately 5:25 p.m.  
 
Moreno, 45, of Huntington Station, was transported to shore by another boater and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was admitted in critical condition. No one on the boat was injured.
 
Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
