"Blizzard Watch" ...Blizzard watch in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening... The National Weather Service in New York has issued a blizzard watch...which is in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening. * Locations...portions of southern Connecticut and Long Island. * Hazard types...heavy snow and blowing snow. * Accumulations...snow accumulation of 12 to 18 inches. * Winds...north 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. * Visibilities...one quarter mile or less at times. * Timing...heaviest snow and strongest winds will occur overnight Monday into Tuesday. * Impacts...extremely dangerous travel due to heavy snowfall and strong winds with whiteout conditions likely. Secondary and tertiary roads may become impassable. Strong winds may down power lines and tree limbs. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A blizzard watch means there is a potential for falling and/or blowing snow with strong winds and extremely poor visibilities. Holbrook Woman Drowns in Backyard Pool

A woman drowned on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 9:33 p.m. on Railroad Avenue.

Holbrook, NY - July 20, 2014 - Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating the death of a Holbrook woman who drowned last night in her backyard pool.
 
Fifth Precinct patrol officers responded last night at 9:33 p.m. to a 911 call reporting that a woman was found unresponsive in a pool at her residence at 1882 Railroad Avenue, Holbrook.
 
Upon arrival, police and members of the Holbrook Fire Department Rescue Squad found Karen Gabrielsen, 50, unconscious and not breathing. She was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where she was pronounced dead.
 
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with any information to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
