Hempstead Man Arrested for Local Break In

Hempstead, NY - July 19th, 2014 - The Third squad reports the arrest of a Hempstead man for Burglary that occurred on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 5:50 am in Hempstead.
 
According to detectives, the defendant Jarred Sowers, 21, of 17 Sycamore Avenue entered into the Windsor Parkway home of a 25 year old male victim through a side window and confronted him while sleeping in his basement apartment. Sowers displayed a black handgun and demanded the victim’s property. The victim complied and handed over an undetermined amount of US currency from his wallet along with car keys. The victim was then ordered to load his lap top computer, X-box game, two televisions, and a cell phone into his vehicle that was parked in the driveway. Sowers then left with the victim’s 1998 Ford Explorer and the victim called police.
 
Shortly after Sowers was observed driving by a Hempstead police officer and ignored his attempt to pull him over. Jarred Sowers then struck two parked cars on Linden Street and fled on foot into residential backyards. With the assistance of the Nassau County Police Canine Unit and the Nassau County Police Bureau of Special Operations Unit Sowers was located at his home and placed into police custody. There were no injuries reported.
 
Jarred Sowers is charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Burglary 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree, Grand Larceny 4th Degree, Reckless Driving, Unlawful Fleeing of a P.O. and multiple Vehicle Traffic Violations. He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Saturday, July 19, 2014.
