"Flash Flood Watch" ...Flash Flood Watch in effect from midnight EDT tonight through Monday morning... The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a * Flash Flood Watch for portions of northeast New Jersey and southeast New York, including the following areas, in northeast New Jersey, eastern Bergen, eastern Essex, eastern Passaic, eastern Union, Hudson, western Bergen, western Essex, western Passaic, and western Union. In southeast New York, Bronx, Kings (brooklyn), New York (manhattan), northern Nassau, northern Queens, northwestern Suffolk, Orange, Richmond (staten island), Rockland, southern Nassau, southern Queens, southern Westchester, and southwestern Suffolk. * From midnight EDT tonight through Monday morning * an area of low pressure will develop along a frontal boundary to our south and pass just south and east of Long Island. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches an hour are possible and may lead to flash flooding the New York City Metro and surrounding areas. Flash flooding will also be possible for portions of the lower Hudson Valley. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. 81 Year-Old Pedestrian Killed by Motorist in Garden City, Authorities Report

Police: Richard H. Backlor, 81, suffered severe head trauma and was later pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

NCPD are investigating a Serious Auto Accident involving a pedestrian that occurred in Garden City on Friday, July 14.

Garden City, NY - July 3, 2017 - The Homicide Squad is investigating a Serious Auto Accident involving a pedestrian that occurred in Garden City on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 8:30 am.
According to detectives, The Garden City Police responded for a call involving a pedestrian being struck by an auto. A 52 year old male driver driving a 2015 Toyota was making a right turn from Kellum place on to Old Country Road and struck the pedestrian, Richard H. Backlor, 81, of Merrick. Mr. Bakalor was crossing old country road from south to north. 
The pedestrian who suffered severe head trauma was transported in a Nassau County Police Ambulance to Winthrop University Hospital and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff at 9:03 am.  
No other injuries are reported. There is no apparent criminality at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
