Mineola, NY - July 11, 2017 - The Democratic Team lead by County Comptroller George Maragos for County Executive today submitted over 20,000 Democratic petition signatures to the Nassau County Board of Elections, an eye-popping total exceeding the minimum ballot access threshold by over 18,000 signatures. This extraordinary feat demonstrates the immense grassroots Democrat support throughout the county wanting real experienced and independent Democratic candidates that can win in November and take the County back from Republicans.

The ticket is headed by George Maragos, the two-term County Comptroller, and former business leader for County Executive. Ms. Ama Yawson for County Comptroller with two decades of financial and legal experience – a Harvard, UPenn Law School and Wharton Business School Graduate, and Mr. Carl DeHaney for County Clerk, a 14-year Nassau County Governmental and Community Representative, New York State Faith Based Leader with an MPA from Long Island University School of Business.

"These petition signatures clearly demonstrate that the Democratic voters in Nassau County are sick and tired of high property taxes and rampant government corruption on both sides of the aisle," said George Maragos. "They want fresh candidates with proven experience, integrity and independence who will work for the residents and the middle class and NOT the unqualified puppets handpicked by party bosses who will cater to special interests and perpetuate the culture of corruption and pay-to-play."

"The response that our team has received from voters has been incredibly positive, and this spectacular petitioning showing is testament to that," said County Comptroller Candidate Ms. Ama Yawson. "We are here to bring a message of positive change to voters- one that emphatically states that we will give people the honest, efficient, progressive, and inclusive government that they deserve- if they give us their support."

"Everywhere I go in Nassau County, I hear the same thing from constituents. Voters are sick and tired of higher taxes, higher fees, and constantly electing people to office who have failed them," said County Clerk Candidate Mr. Carl DeHaney, "I am proud to stand with this awesome team as we work together to deliver meaningful reform to Nassau Residents."

If the 2013 Democratic primary is to be used as a benchmark, it is likely that the winner of this year's Democratic primary will need less than 20,000 votes to win and advance to the general election. The overwhelming outpouring of support this ticket has received from the democratic voters of Nassau County during the petitions process, coupled with the momentum that their respective campaigns continue to build puts the Maragos/Yawson/DeHaney Democratic Ticket in the lead position for the Primary Election on September 12th.
