"Winter Storm Warning" ...Winter Storm Warning in effect until 7 am EST Monday... The National Weather Service in New York has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow...which is in effect until 7 am EST Monday. The Winter Weather Advisory is no longer in effect. * Locations...much of southeast Connecticut...and central and eastern Long Island. * Hazard types...snow...briefly mixing with or changing to freezing rain across Long Island this evening. * Accumulations...snow accumulation of 4 to 7 inches. Ice accumulation of a glaze to a tenth of an inch of ice in Suffolk County. * Visibilities...one quarter to one half mile at times. * Temperatures...upper 20s. * Timing...snow will be moderate to locally heavy at times into this evening. * Impacts...hazardous travel due to snow covered surfaces. * Winds...west 5 to 10 mph. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel...keep an extra flashlight...food... and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. , "Special Statement" Bands of moderate to locally heavy snow over the New York City metropolitan area and Long Island are drifting north into coastal Connecticut. These bands will produce snowfall at rates of an inch per hour...and visibility between one quarter and one half mile...and create hazardous driving conditions. The snow may mix with sleet at times in and around New York City. Mastic Beach, NY - July 11, 2014 - At the William Floyd Board of Education’s annual reorganization meeting held on Tuesday, July 8, Jeananne Dawson and Robert Taiani, the newly re-elected Board of Education trustees took the oath of office for a new three-year term.  Additionally, the Board of Education appointed the slate of officers for the 2014-2015 school year; they are: Robert Vecchio, President, Board of Education; Jeananne Dawson, Vice President, Board of Education; Dr. Paul Casciano, Superintendent of Schools, who is entering his 41st year in the William Floyd School District; Jennifer Schildkraut, District Clerk; and Michelle Romanosky, District Treasurer.

The Board of Education also adopted its meeting dates for the 2014-2015 academic year. All meetings will be held in the high school library, 240 Mastic Beach Road, Mastic Beach, with public session beginning at 8 pm, unless otherwise noted. The dates are: August 12, 26; September 9, 23; October 14, 28; November 18; December 9; January 13, 27; February 10; March 10, 31; April 22 (7:15 pm, also Budget Adoption and ESBOCES Budget Vote and Board Election); May 12 (7 pm, Annual Budget Hearing), 26; and June 9, 23.

Budget Advisory Committee meetings, where the community’s input is sought in the budget preparation process, will be held in the high school library on March 3 (Budget 101 at 6:30 pm); March 10, 31 at 7:15 pm; April 14 at 6:30 pm; and April 22 at 7:15 pm (Budget Adoption).
