Man Arrested for Robbing and Assaulting a Man in Patchogue

Patchogue, NY - July 10th, 2014 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a man who beat and robbed a man early this morning in Patchogue.

A 38-year-old Patchogue man was walking near the Patchogue Long Island Railroad train station on Division Street at approximately 5:45 a.m. when he was accosted by two men who punched him numerous times and stole his wallet.  An unidentified woman who was passing by observed the attack and yelled at the suspects to stop beating the victim.  The assailants then fled on foot.  The Good Samaritan aided the victim, who suffered minor injuries, and helped him get home.  Approximately an hour later, the victim, who was walking on South Street in Patchogue, called police when he spotted one of the men who had assaulted him.

Fifth Precinct Patrol Officer Dennis Stewart located the suspect, Antonio Lattan, on South Street and West Avenue in Patchogue and placed him under arrest.  The second man has not been located.  He is described as a light-skinned black or Hispanic man.

Fifth Squad detectives charged Lattan, 23, of Mastic, with Robbery 2nd Degree.  He is being held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on July 11.

Detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident, including the Good Samaritan who assisted the victim, to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

The investigation is continuing.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
