Garden City, NY - July 9, 2015 - For the 10th consecutive year, Adelphi University has achieved "Best Buy" status from the top-selling Fiske Guide to Colleges. Adelphi is one of just 25 independent schools nationwide and the only independent school on Long Island and in the metropolitan New York area to achieve this designation in the 2016 issue.

Adelphi graduates are prepared to succeed in both their chosen careers as well as in their communities. Adelphi is a nationally ranked, world-class private institution where students get to know professors through small classes, research opportunities and independent projects. Students are encouraged to conduct research alongside renowned scientists and liberal arts scholars and create with our award-winning visual artists, musicians, dancers, actors, and directors.

With nearly 8,000 students from 39 states and 46 countries, Adelphi is committed to academic excellence and innovation. Adelphi graduation rates continue to be one of the highest among comprehensive private colleges in the region. Ample experiential learning opportunities allow students to stand out to future employers and graduate programs. Three unique Adelphi programs are the Adelphi Jaggar Community Fellows Program, Levermore Global Scholars (LGS) Program and Horace G. McDonell Summer Research Science Fellowship Program. Jaggar Community Fellows offers paid internships for Adelphi students to work and train with regional nonprofits. LGS is unique, combining the best academic practices of an honors college, service learning, and international studies programs into one comprehensive program. Through the McDonell Scholars Program, students benefit from working closely with a faculty mentor, conducting experiments in a research lab in biology, chemistry or physics for 10 weeks and receive a stipend.

With its countless educational efforts, Adelphi University continues to be recognized as a leader. The School of Social Work is included on U.S. News’ Best Graduate Schools list. For more than 60 years, the Adelphi University School of Social Work has been preparing social workers through its B.S.W., M.S.W., and Ph.D. programs.

Adelphi has long been well-known on the forefront of preparing professionals for all health fields, including medicine, nursing, and psychology, among others, as well as for the business of health. The new Center for Health Innovation is a good example, as are programs in health informatics, public health, physical education, human performance science and emergency management. The University continuously aims to enhance these programs through new academic facilities and the best and brightest faculty. The state-of-the-art Nexus Building and Welcome Center, to open in fall 2015, will feature the Nursing Innovation Lab and Training Center, outfitted with cutting edge digital learning devices, alternative and home care settings, and health-event simulators that ensure that an Adelphi nurse remains the best trained in the region to meet the changing nature of healthcare.

Starting in 2010, Adelphi University was honored with the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for engaging students, faculty and staff in substantial, relevant and meaningful service to communities, with the additional honor in 2013 of receiving the award “With Distinction,” a category reserved for “top tier applicant institutions.” In 2014, Adelphi was awarded recognition with distinction for education and general community service.

The University was a Top College pick by Forbes Magazine for best value, high student satisfaction and graduation rates, alumni career success and low student debt.

Adelphi is consistently ranked in the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus.

Students can also express their “Panther Pride” and join one of the 22 Division I and II competitive athletics teams. With alumni and friends in all fields, Adelphi students have access to an alumni network that is more than 100,000 strong for advising and coaching in virtually any career path, from day one to beyond graduation.

The guide not only shows Adelphi’s unique character, but is an essential source of information for parents and their college bound students. This guide helps students make educated decisions about their college career and how academia, tuition, and social quality of life are ranked among the top schools. It can be purchased here or at the bookstore. The new Fiske Interactive, which allows students to streamline their college search, can be purchased through the IPad APP store.
