Patchogue Senior Seriously Injured in 3 Car Crash

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a three-vehicle crash in which a Patchogue man was seriously injured last evening.

Patchogue, NY - July 8th, 2015 - Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a three-vehicle crash in which a Patchogue man was seriously injured last evening.

Thomas Morrelli, 65, was driving a 2007 GMC SUV eastbound in the right lane on Veterans Memorial Highway when his vehicle struck a 2007 Hyundai sedan driven by Melissa Molinari. Molinari’s vehicle then struck the rear of a 2013 Volvo tractor trailer driven by Thomas Gersic, 52, who was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Ocean Avenue at 11:50 p.m. The GMC spun around and ended up in the left lane facing southbound.

Morrelli was suffering from chest pains and he was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is listed in serious condition. Molinari, 18, of Holbrook, was transported via Sayville Community Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where she is being treated for minor injuries. Gersic, of Coram, was uninjured.

The SUV and the sedan were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.
