Mangano to Host Nassau County “Veterans Stand Down”

The Stand Down, from 10am – 2pm, is hosted by the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency with assistance from volunteers representing all service organizations.

Hempstead, NY - July 8, 2014 - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano, in coordination with the United Veterans Organization (UVO), announces that a Veterans Stand Down will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at American Legion, 160 Marvin Avenue in Hempstead. The Stand Down, from 10am – 2pm, is hosted by the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency (VSA) with assistance from volunteers representing all service organizations.
 
Veterans will receive assistance with securing entitled benefits, job counseling and legal advice. Clothes and food donated from the community will be available to the veterans, as well as a BBQ, haircuts, medical screening, enrollment in the Veterans Affairs (VA) health care system and dental cleaning offered by Dental on the Go.
 
Representatives from Nassau County government agencies will be participating, including the departments of Social Services, Health, and Human Services, as well as The Salvation Army, the New York State Department of Labor, The Department of Veterans Affairs, New York State Division of Veterans Affairs and The Red Cross.
