The National Weather Service in New York has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow...which is in effect from 7 PM this evening to 7 PM EST Thursday. The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect. * Locations...eastern Union County New Jersey...southern parts of New York City...and Long Island. * Hazard types...heavy snow. * Accumulations...snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches tonight into Thursday. * Timing...rain mixes with sleet and snow this evening...before changing to all snow by midnight. Snow may be heavy at times late tonight through Thursday morning...before tapering off Thursday evening. * Impacts...hazardous travel conditions are expected tonight and Thursday due to reduced visibilities...icy roads and significant snow accumulations. * Visibilities...one quarter to one half mile at times. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. Man Arrested for DWI with Child in Vehicle

Arrest occurred between New Highway and Poplar Street in North Amityville on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at approximately 1:35 a.m.

North Amityville, NY - July 1, 2014 - Suffolk County Police arrested a Copiague man for driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years old in the vehicle.
 
Juan Orellana-Lombalda, 38, was driving a 2001 Lexus southbound on New Highway when he was stopped by First Precinct Patrol Officer William Madden for a broken headlight at approximately 1:35 a.m. Orellana-Lombalda had his 14-year-old daughter in the vehicle with him.
 
Upon interview, it was determined that Orellana-Lombalda was under the influence of alcohol, and he was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15-Years-Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law). He was also issued five citations for vehicle and traffic law violations.
 
Orellana-Lombalda is being held at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.
 
 A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
