"Heat Advisory" ...Heat advisory in effect from 11 am to 6 PM EDT Monday... The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a heat advisory...which is in effect from 11 am to 6 PM EDT Monday. * Heat index values...up to 101 due to temperatures in the low to mid 90s and dewpoints in the lower 70s. * Timing...highest heat indices Monday afternoon. * Impacts...the combination of the heat and humidity will increase the risk for heat related health issues...especially for the elderly...those with chronic health problems such as lung and heart disease...those working outdoors...and other heat sensitive groups of people. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A heat advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 100 to 104 degrees for two consecutive hours. To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Man Arrested for DWI with Child in Vehicle

Arrest occurred between New Highway and Poplar Street in North Amityville on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at approximately 1:35 a.m.

North Amityville, NY - July 1, 2014 - Suffolk County Police arrested a Copiague man for driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years old in the vehicle.
 
Juan Orellana-Lombalda, 38, was driving a 2001 Lexus southbound on New Highway when he was stopped by First Precinct Patrol Officer William Madden for a broken headlight at approximately 1:35 a.m. Orellana-Lombalda had his 14-year-old daughter in the vehicle with him.
 
Upon interview, it was determined that Orellana-Lombalda was under the influence of alcohol, and he was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15-Years-Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law). He was also issued five citations for vehicle and traffic law violations.
 
Orellana-Lombalda is being held at the First Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.
