17-Year-Old Arrested For Shooting in Elmont Striking a Vehicle

Rhayne O. Morris, 17, of Valley Stream was arrested after firing shots in Elmont and fleeing the scene.

Elmont, NY - June 28, 2016 - The Fifth Squad and Special Investigation Squad report an arrest for Reckless Endangerment on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 10:45 p.m. in Elmont.

According to detectives, Fifth Precinct officers responded to 45 S. Covert Avenue for shots fired.  Witnesses at scene advised police that the person who fired the shots fled in a black Prius which was located at the intersection of N. Fletcher Avenue and Kent Road in Valley Stream.  An investigation revealed Rhayne O. Morris, 17, of Valley Stream fired a 9 mm Interarms Firestar pistol striking the vehicle of a female victim, 35 years of age.  Morris was also found to be in possession of psilocybin (mushrooms).  A male juvenile, 15, was found to be in possession of arrested at the scene of psilocybin (mushrooms) and Xanax.

Morris is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Mischief 4th degree and Criminal Control of a controlled Substance 7th degree.  The juvenile is charged with Criminal Possession of a Firearm and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree.  They will be arraigned on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at First District Court in Hempstead.
