Particularly along the North Shore of Long Island and the north facing shores of the South Fork of Suffolk County. , "Wind Advisory" ...Wind Advisory in effect from 2 PM EDT this afternoon to 5 PM EST Sunday... The National Weather Service in New York has issued a Wind Advisory...which is in effect from 2 PM EDT this afternoon to 5 PM EST Sunday. * Locations...Suffolk County NY and coastal New Haven...Middlesex and New London counties in Connecticut. * Hazards...strong winds. * Winds...north 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. * Timing...this afternoon through the day Sunday. * Impacts...some tree limbs and branches might fall onto power lines causing scattered power outages. Strong winds will make driving difficult on elevated roads and bridges. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph... or gusts of 46 to 57 mph...are expected or occurring. Winds this strong can make driving difficult...especially for high profile vehicles. Suffolk County Legislator Robert Trotta Congratulates Senior Citizen of the Year

The winner has been volunteering with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for 18 years.

Smithtown, NY - June 27, 2014 - Sally Economou of Smithtown was chosen as the Suffolk County Senior Citizen of the Year and presented with her award at the annual senior celebration luncheon. Ms. Economou has been volunteering with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for 18 years and is very involved with the telephone reassurance program. In addition, she is a hospice volunteer with the Visiting Nurse Service of Suffolk County and had her dog trained as a service dog so they can make weekly visits to various nursing homes and rehabilitation centers. “Ms. Economou has certainly demonstrated a commitment to serving the seniors of Suffolk County and is truly an outstanding member of the community. I applaud her volunteer spirit,” said Suffolk County Legislator Robert Trotta.
