Half Hallow Hills Student Chosen as Winner of FASNY Scholarship

Dix Hills, NY - June 27, 2014 - On behalf of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY), FASNY Scholarship Awards Committee Chairman Brian F. McQueen has announced the name of a local recipient of the FASNY Gerard J. Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship – Daniel Chinitz of Dix Hills, NY.  At his school’s senior award ceremony, Daniel received a certificate as well as a check for $1,500 for his volunteer service in the community.
 
Daniel Chinitz graduated from Half Hallow Hills High School in Dix Hills, NY, and will attend The University of Wisconsin at Madison.  Daniel is a member of the school’s yearbook and newspaper clubs as a photographer and writer, The Brainstormers Academic Team, plays drums in a band and also involved in The Peer Aids educators club which educates lower classmen about the HIV/AIDS Virus. He has been in the Junior Fire Department program  for a year and loves the concept of brotherhood and the life experiences you receive from being a volunteer firefighter.
 
Daniel was one of 15 students chosen for this scholarship. A total of 79 students throughout the state applied for this scholarship, which was the highest number ever submitted in the history of this award.
 
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of an applicant’s volunteer service to his or her community (e.g., community projects, fire department, scouting, church, school, work with senior citizens, fire prevention projects, 4-H, etc.) and the proof of his or her character (e.g., community citizenship, dependability, etc.)
