Bay Shore Man Killed After Threatening Officer with Handgun

Bay Shore, NY - June 27th, 2014 - The Suffolk County Police Department Homicide Squad is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Bay Shore early this morning.

Two Third Precinct patrol officers initiated a traffic stop for vehicle and traffic violations on Howells Road in Bay Shore at 12:02 a.m. There were three occupants in the vehicle. The front seat passenger, Andres Morales, ran from the vehicle and one of the officers pursued him on foot. There was a confrontation between Morales and the officer and Morales displayed a handgun. The officer shot two rounds and struck Morales twice in the torso.

Morales, 27, of Bay Shore, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.
