"Winter Weather Advisory" ...Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 3 PM Tuesday to 2 am EST Wednesday... The National Weather Service in New York has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow and freezing rain...which is in effect from 3 PM Tuesday to 2 am EST Wednesday. * Locations...New York City...Nassau and western Suffolk well as Union...Essex and Hudson counties... * hazard types...snow and freezing rain. * Accumulations...snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches...along with a trace to a few hundredths of an inch of ice. * Temperatures...starting in the mid to upper 20s Tuesday afternoon...then slowly rising into the lower 30s to mid 30s late Tuesday night. * Timing...snow develops late Tuesday afternoon...then mixes with sleet and freezing rain Tuesday evening before changing to freezing rain by midnight...then to plain rain late at night. * Impacts...snow covered surfaces...coated with ice...will make traveling difficult at times. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow...sleet...or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Legislator Anker Encourages Taxpayers to Take Advantage of County Discounts

Legislator Anker would like to inform residents about the various discounts that Suffolk County government offers to its taxpayers.

Mount Sinai, NY - June 25, 2014  - Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker would like to inform residents about the various discounts available to taxpayers within Suffolk County.  Such benefits include discounts to senior citizens, veterans, and reduced-rate access to Suffolk County Parks
  • Senior Discounts: Seniors will be pleased to learn that they are eligible for discounts at many restaurants, hotels, cinemas, retail stores, supermarkets, and mortgage providers. For more information, contact the Suffolk County Office for the Aging at (631) 852-1420. 
  • Veterans Discounts: Veterans are welcome to many similar discounts as seniors and may contact Suffolk County’s Veterans Agency at (631) 852-1410 for more information.
  • Reduced-Rate Access to Suffolk County Parks: The Suffolk County Parks Department offers Green Key cards to eligible citizen. These cards provide access to the local parks at a discounted rate. For information pertaining to Green Key cards, contact the Parks Department at (631) 854-4949.
