Suffolk County, NY - June 25, 2014 - Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker is pleased to announce a new opportunity provided to local students by the Suffolk County Police Department. Students ages sixteen to eighteen are invited to attend a week-long program where they will learn structure, discipline, and respect for others as well as for themselves.

Thanks to County Executive Steve Bellone, the Suffolk County Youth Bureau and Suffolk County Police Athletic League, scholarships will be provided to disadvantaged students in underserved communities at no cost to them. Students will receive a summer uniform consisting of a cap, shorts and a t-shirt and lunch will be provided each day.

“I encourage our local students and families to take advantage of the Summer Youth Academy,” said Legislator Anker. “The values our teens learn from the program will contribute to their success both in school and in their future.”

Two sessions will be offered this summer, each lasting one week in early August. For more information, call the Suffolk County Youth Bureau at (631) 853-8270. Applications and registration documents must be submitted by June 27th, so apply soon!
