Railroad Tie Installation Work Will Result in Added Travel Time for Customers.

Buses will replace trains between Huntington and Port Jefferson during off-peak, midday hours Monday, June 24 through Friday, August 9 to allow the LIRR to install new railroad ties along the entire stretch of track. Bus service will run weekdays from 10 AM until 3:45 PM when train service resumes in time for the PM peak travel period. Customers should allow for extra travel time since buses are departing earlier and arriving at their destinations later than the regularly scheduled trains.

Eastbound

Customers traveling east from stations Greenlawn through Port Jefferson will travel by train as far as Huntington and board buses there for the balance of their trip, arriving up to 26 minutes later than normal.

Westbound

Customers traveling west from Port Jefferson through Greenlawn will board buses at stations up to 24 minutes earlier than normal for a journey to Huntington where train service will resume for points west.

Alternative Train Route

During the outage, Port Jefferson Branch customers should consider traveling down to the nearest station on the Ronkonkoma Branch. which will be running regular service.

Spending $70 Million in 2013

The LIRR has budgeted $70 million in 2013 to maintain its track infrastructure in a state of good repair. The work on the Port Jefferson Branch will help ensure safety, greater service reliability and a smoother, more comfortable ride for customers.
