Rockville Centre, NY - June 24th, 2013 - The Church of The Ascension in Rockville Centre, New York is sponsoring its Youth Group to go on a very special pilgrimage.
On June 26th, nine individuals will set off on a journey to one of the three holiest Christian shrines in the entire world: Santiago de Compostela in the Spanish provence of Galicia. They will walk across Northern Spain, carrying all their gear on their backs as they journey to visit the relics of Saint James, the brother of John the Apostle.
For over a thousand years pilgrims have traveled this same route to pray before the bones of Saint James, which are housed in the crypt beneath the high altar of the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, and the Ascension "pilgrims" will travel there in the same spirit as all those that have gone before them.
