Eliud Ngetich of Kenya won first place at the 36th Annual Shelter Island Run 10K on June 20, 2015.

Shelter Island, NY - June 22, 2015 - Eliud Ngetich of Kenya won first place at the 36th Annual Shelter Island Run 10K  on June 20, 2015. The 21 year old crossed the finish line at 28 minutes, 53:31 seconds, just ahead of Diriba Degefa Yigezu of the 27 year-old Ethiopian, who ran 29:44:42.  2014 Boston Marathon winner Meb Keflizighi and recent masters champion, Meb came in fourth at 29:59:54. Meb broke the masters record held previously by Graeme Fell at 30:37.

Elfnesh Melaku, a 21-year-old from Kenya, was the top female finisher at 34:05:45. Long Island native Katie DiCamillo crossed the finish line in 34:10:83. The 27 year old placed 6th at the 2015 USA Marathon Championships at 2:37.

The race has a long history of attracting elite runners from all over the world, including Simon Ndirangu, Malika Mejdou, and Joan Benoit Samuelson.

Sitting between the South and North forks of Long Island, the Shelter Island 10K has been touted as one of the country’s most beautiful runs by Runner’s World magazine.  With a pre-sunset start time of 5:30 pm, the beauty of the Shelter Island 10K Run showcases the picturesque views of the harbor, abundance of nature and the exceptionally warm community.
