Three Vehicle Auto Accident in New Hyde Park, Man Arrested for DWI with Three Young Children in the Rear of Vehicle

New Hyde Park, NY - June 21, 2015 - The Public Information Office reports the details of an arrest for Driving While Intoxicated/Leandra’s Law that occurred on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 10:45 pm in New Hyde Park

According to police, 911 received a call for a three vehicle auto accident that occurred at the intersection of Covert Avenue and 11th Street.  Upon police arrival, defendant Timothy McAleavey, 52, of Stewart Manor was observed being unsteady on his feet, glassy eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on his breath.  The defendant was placed under arrest at the scene.  Also three children ages 1, 2 and 4 (not related) were seated in the rear of the defendants’ 2003 Ford pickup truck at the time of the accident.  There were no reported injuries.  The children were released to the mother who was inside the automobile at the time of the accident.

Defendant McAleavey is being charged with 3 counts of Aggravated Driving Intoxicated -Leandra’s’ Law, 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Driving While Intoxicated, Excessive Tinted Windows and 3 counts of Rear Passengers under the age of 4 Unrestrained.  He will be arraigned on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
