Smithtown, NY - June 20, 2016 - Students from the Fort Salonga Elementary School, as well as their siblings, participated in a Bike Rodeo and Safety Clinic sponsored by Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta and Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent DeMarco’s Office.

The Sheriff’s deputies performed safety checks on the children’s bikes, inflated tires, and provided new helmets for those who had outgrown their old ones. Afterwards they rode an obstacle course to learn the rules of the road and to practice safe riding.

“As a retired Suffolk County Police Detective, I know that nothing is more important than the safety of our children. Now that it is spring and children will be riding their bikes more frequently, I thought this was a great program that the Sheriff’s Office offers to the community and one that would help to teach them the rules of the road to follow to insure that they are safe on our busy roadways,” said Suffolk County Legislator Rob Trotta

Legislator Robert Trotta represents the 13th Legislative District, which includes Smithtown, Fort Salonga, Kings Park, San Remo, Nissequogue, Head of the Harbor, and St. James, as well as most of East Northport and parts of Northport and Commack.

Legislator Trotta serves on the Legislature’s Economic Development, Environment, Planning & Agriculture, Health, Public Works, Transportation & Energy, and Ways & Means Committees.
