Man Arrested for Killing Teen in Hit & Run Accident in Levittown

Update - June 17th, 2014 - The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of Michael Elardo, 48 of 23 Meadow Lane, Syosset for the above accident. Elardo surrendered to detectives on Monday, June 16, 2014. He is charged with Leaving the Scene of an Incident and will be arraigned on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at First District Court in Hempstead.
 
Update - June 16, 2014 - The Homicide Squad has identified the below victim as Brianna Soplin from Levittown. 
 
Original Release - Levittown, NY - June 15, 2014 - The Homicide Squad is investigating a Fatal Vehicular Accident that occurred on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at 12:02 AM in Levittown.
 
According to detectives, a 13 year old female victim was crossing Hempstead Turnpike from the south to north side at Gardiners Avenue when she was struck by a vehicle travelling eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike.  The victim was transported to Nassau University Medical Center with head and body trauma and was pronounced dead by hospital staff at 4:30 AM.  The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and was last seen travelling eastbound Hempstead Turnpike then northbound on to the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway.  The automobile is described as a 2011 to 2013 blue Town and Country minivan.
 
Detectives request anyone with information regarding this crime to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.
