NCPD Reports Two Busted During Hempstead Traffic Stop on Drug, Firearm Charges

Hempstead, NY – June 14, 2017 – The Third Squad reports the arrest of two men on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 12:31am in Hempstead.
 
According to Detectives, Hempstead Police Officers observed the driver of a 2008 Nissan commit a traffic infraction on Hilton Avenue; they effectuated a vehicle and traffic law stop on Hilton Avenue.  
 
The investigation revealed that both occupants of the vehicle were in possession of a plastic container, a zip locked bag and an another clear bag containing eleven plastic bags all containing a substance believed to be marijuana in addition to a loaded Highpoint 9mm handgun.
 
Arrested are defendants Nyshaun Murray, 22, of Hempstead and Kquamel Jones, 18, of Uniondale. Both defendants are each charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Weapon Failed to Register, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. 
 
Defendant Murray, the driver of the vehicle, was also charged with multiple VTL infractions. Defendant Jones, the passenger, was additionally charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Both defendants were arraigned on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
