Assemblyman Montesano: Greater Transparency Needed In NYS Economic Development Programs

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  13. June 2017

Long Island, NY - June 13, 2017 - Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,C,I-Glen Head) is co-sponsoring legislation to ensure that more accountability and transparency are enforced when it comes to taxpayer-funded economic development initiatives.

The legislation, introduced by Assembly Minority members, comes as a result of the long line of bid rigging and corruption that has plagued initiatives like the Buffalo Billion and START-UP NY. A.5657A would set up a Lump Sum Allocation Advisory Committee, with the objective to review all lump sum appropriations to ensure there is no conflict of interest.

“The government should only be spending taxpayer money when necessary and with the most transparency possible,” said Montesano. “Projects like the Buffalo Billion and START-UP NY have been plagued with corruption and bid rigging, and have drained the pockets of taxpayers across New York. It’s your money; you should know how it’s spent.”

Assemblyman Montesano represents the 15th Assembly District in Nassau County. Please visit Assemblyman Montesano’s website.
