June 13, 2013, Bellmore, NY – Long Island Crisis Center’s 24/7 suicide prevention and crisis intervention hotlines are staffed by volunteer counselors.  So, it was no surprise when four of them got together with a friend to contribute to another worthy cause, Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths; a charity that uses donated human hair to make wigs for women undergoing cancer treatments.

Crisis Center volunteers Carl and Lisa (of Bellmore), Louise (of Franklin Square), Nicole and their friend Melanie met at Hair Effex Salon in Bellmore to “cut off their locks of hair.” The women each donated between 8 – 12 inches of hair.  Carl donated 12 inches of his hair, shaving his head entirely.  (At a “shave Carl’s head” pre-party, friends paid to braid, cut and shave Carl’s hair as a donation to Beautiful Lengths.)

Hair Effex Salon generously donated their services and treated all four women to fantastic haircuts, showing their commitment to the Bellmore community and to this worthy cause.

“Not only did we raise several hundred dollars, but word spread and other members of the community chose to cut their hair and make donations, too.  This was a wonderful example of people coming together to give to others,” noted Lisa, spokeswoman for the group. “We also thank Long Island Crisis Center and Hair Effex for showing such commitment and generosity to the community.”
