State Troopers Make DWI, Larceny Arrest in Hempstead

Hempstead, NY - June 10, 2014 - On 6/9/14 at 8:00 AM, troopers were dispatched to a pursuit initiated by the Village of Hempstead Police Department that entered the Southern State Parkway at Nassau Road(exit 21). A man stole several cans of dust spray from a Staples store on Penninsula Blvd. in Hempstead then drove off in a brown Chevrolet Malibu prompting the pursuit by Hempstead PD. Troopers later discovered the vehicle stopped on the Southern State Parkway near Hempstead Avenue (exit 17). The driver, Shatik Canady, age 36, of Freeport NY, was inhaling(huffing) dust spray and refused to exit the vehicle. Mr. Canady was eventually taken into custody by troopers. 
 
The defendant was arrested for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Resisting Arrest, and Petit Larceny. All charges returnable in Nassau County First District Court on July 9th.
