Legislator Anker: Promoting Breast Cancer Awareness

Written by Long Island News & PR  |  11. June 2013

Yaphank, NY, June 2013 – Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker recently joined participants of the Long Island 2 Day Breast Cancer Event on Saturday, June 8. The event, which took place over two days, donates 100% of its profits to Long Island breast cancer organizations to directly benefit the local breast cancer community.

“I’d like to thank the volunteers for creating so much awareness about breast cancer,” said Legislator Anker. “Having lost my grandmother to breast cancer, I’ve been proactive in promoting cancer awareness. There are measures we can take to reduce the incidence of the disease. These measures include leading a healthy lifestyle and reducing exposure to toxic chemicals.”

The 2 Day Walk began on Saturday morning at Smith Point Beach. Escorted by Suffolk County Police, participants walked 20 miles through scenic county roads to Cathedral Pines in Middle Island, where they camped overnight. After a hearty breakfast in the morning, walkers made a 15 mile trek back to Smith Point. For more information about the Long Island 2 Day Walk, please visit www.li2daywalk.org.
