Argument Over Social Media Posts Leads to Merrick Stabbing and Arrest, Police Say

NCPD reports the arrest of Anthony Vas of Merrick, 17, for Assault that occurred on Wednesday, June 7.

Merrick, NY - June 8, 2017 - The Seventh Squad reports an arrest for Assault that occurred on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 7:45 pm in Merrick.
 
According to detectives, at 3:35 pm the male victim, 17 years of age, went to a residence on S. Hewlett Avenue to confront Anthony Vas, 17, of that address over posts made on a social media site.  An altercation ensued at which time Vas stabbed the victim in the chest.  
 
The victim fled the scene and was transported to an area hospital where he underwent emergency surgery for his injury.  He is listed in stable condition at this time. Vas was placed under arrest at his home without incident.
 
He is charged with Assault 1st degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree.  He will be arraigned on Thursday, June 08, 2017 at First District Court in Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
