Soul Legend Freddie Jackson and U.T.F.O.’s Doc Ice on Tom Needham’s The Sounds of Film
Stony Brook, NY – June 7, 2017 – Soul legend Freddie Jackson and U.T.F.O.’s Doc Ice will be Tom Needham’s special guests this Thursday on WUSB’s The Sounds of Film.
Harlem’s Freddie Jackson is one of America’s most successful soul singers. He is a multi-platinum performer who is known for his 1980’s albums Rock Me Tonight and Feels Like the First Time. Through the years, he has recorded countless hits including a remarkable 11 number one R&B songs including "Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake)," "You Are My Lady," "A Little Bit More," "Tasty Love," "Have You Ever Loved Somebody," "Jam Tonight" and "Hey Lover." His music has been featured in a number of films including King of New York, Love & Basketball, and All Dogs Go to Heaven. His latest single is the infectious song, "One Night."

The Sounds of Film will also be paying tribute to U.T.F.O.’s Educated Rapper, a.k.a. EMD, who passed away this past week in a Brooklyn hospital. In his honor, The Sounds of Film will re-broadcast an interview with U.T.F.O.’s Doc Ice, and feature the music of the acclaimed early hip hop group. U.T.F.O. is best remembered for their hit “Roxanne Roxanne,” a classic rap hit that led the way to historic “Roxanne Wars” with Queens MC Roxanne Shante. The Brooklyn group featured Kangol Kid, Educated Rapper, Doctor Ice and Mix Master Ice. Some of their best known songs include "Hangin’ Out," "Beats and Rhymes," "Bite It," and "Pick Up the Pace" which was featured in the movie Krush Groove.
