Farmingdale Business Students Place at Annual Long Island Business Teachers Association Competition

Farmingdale, NY – June 7, 2017 – Farmingdale High School business students recently participated in the annual Long Island Business Teachers Association competition. Every year, students compete as part of the Farmingdale School District’s advanced business curriculum, preparing the next generation of business leaders in America. In order to compete, Farmingdale High School business teachers selected two students to compete in each of the curriculum related contests. Students took an 80 question multiple choice test or a computer performance exam to qualify. The following students placed in the top five in their category against other Long Island students:
 
  • Christian Roth, 1st Place in Business Principles
  • Andrew Needham, 2nd Place in Business Law
  • Nicole Hamberger, 2nd Place in Web Design
  • Danielle Hopkins, 2nd Place in Web Design
  • Delia Masterson, 3rd Place in Accounting
  • Avery Stevenson, 4th Place in Accounting
  • Anthony Barbuto, 2nd Place in Business Calculations
  • Willie Wenzel, 5th Place in Business Calculations
  • Matthew Pinna, 3rd Place in College Accounting
  • Anthony Bhasin, 4th Place in Computer Applications
During a luncheon to celebrate the competition winners, Farmingdale High School senior Joseph Schmidt was also awarded a $500 scholarship to attend college. The scholarship is open to all seniors who have completed at least 3 credits in business education and plan on attending college next year majoring in business or business education.
 
Business teacher Jonas Viik was also awarded the Teacher of the Year award for 2017. Each year LIBTA recognizes an outstanding member who has positively influenced Business Education.  Criteria may include such factors as interest and enthusiasm for the education of students, improving and expanding the Business Education program and active business involvement at the local, state or national levels.
