Motorcyclist Killed on Sunrise Highway by Driver Making Left Turn

Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a fatal auto accident involving a motorcycle that occurred in Freeport on Sunday, June 01, 2014 at 4:40 P.M.

Freeport, NY - June 2nd, 2014 - Homicide Squad detectives are investigating a fatal auto accident involving a motorcycle that occurred in Freeport on Sunday, June 01, 2014 at 4:40 P.M.

According to detectives, a 2006 Toyota Scion TC, operated by a male driver, 23, was travelling westbound on Sunrise Highway and while attempting to make a left turn on Buffalo Ave., was in collision with a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle, operated by a male driver, 38, who was travelling eastbound on Sunrise Highway.

Nassau County Police Ambulance transported the operator of the motorcycle to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a staff physician at 5:30 P.M.   His identity is being withheld pending family notification.  The operator of the Toyota and his female passenger, 23, were not injured.

Detectives report no apparent criminality at this time.  Both vehicles were impounded from the scene for brake and safety tests.
