West Hempstead Car Accident Under Investigation

West Hempstead, NY - May 27th, 2014 - The Fourth Squad reports the details of Serious Vehicular Accident involving two pedestrians which occurred in West Hempstead on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at 11:35 pm.

According to detectives, a 1998 Ford traveling east on Hempstead Turnpike and being operated by a 65 year old male, struck two pedestrians crossing the street. A male 31 years of age and a female 35 years of age were crossing Hempstead Turnpike from north to south in the vicinity of Garden City Boulevard when they were struck.

The driver was transported by a Nassau County Ambulance and treated for lacerations to his hands at a local hospital. The female pedestrian suffered severe head trauma and was air lifted by a Nassau County Police Helicopter to a local hospital for treatment. The male pedestrian also suffered head trauma and was transported to a local hospital by a Nassau County Police Ambulance. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives report no apparent criminality with the accident at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
