The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a coastal Flood Advisory...which is in effect from 11 PM Saturday to 3 am EDT Sunday. The coastal Flood Advisory for this evening remains in effect. * Locations...shorelines along western Long Island Sound. * Tidal departures...1 to 1 1/2 feet above astronomical tide heights. * Timing...around the times of high tide between 10 PM and 2 am tonight. * Impacts...minor flooding of the most vulnerable shore roads and/or properties due to height of storm tide or wave splashover. Majority of roads remain passable with only isolated closures. There is no significant threat to life and any impact on property is minimal. Precautionary/preparedness actions... West Hempstead Car Accident Under Investigation

West Hempstead, NY - May 27th, 2014 - The Fourth Squad reports the details of Serious Vehicular Accident involving two pedestrians which occurred in West Hempstead on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at 11:35 pm.

According to detectives, a 1998 Ford traveling east on Hempstead Turnpike and being operated by a 65 year old male, struck two pedestrians crossing the street. A male 31 years of age and a female 35 years of age were crossing Hempstead Turnpike from north to south in the vicinity of Garden City Boulevard when they were struck.

The driver was transported by a Nassau County Ambulance and treated for lacerations to his hands at a local hospital. The female pedestrian suffered severe head trauma and was air lifted by a Nassau County Police Helicopter to a local hospital for treatment. The male pedestrian also suffered head trauma and was transported to a local hospital by a Nassau County Police Ambulance. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Detectives report no apparent criminality with the accident at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
