The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a high wind watch...which is in effect from late Sunday night through late Monday night. * Winds...northeast 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph. * Timing...strongest winds will likely occur from mid morning Monday into Monday evening. * Impacts...downed trees and power lines are likely, with numerous power outages possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, and on elevated roads and bridges. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph, or gusts of 58 mph or higher, may occur. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts. , "Storm Watch" ...Storm watch remains in effect from late Sunday night through late Monday night... * winds and seas...east winds 25 to 35 kt with gusts up to 50 kt. Seas 6 to 9 feet...and as high as 9 to 12 feet east of Orient Point. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A storm watch is issued when the risk of storm force winds of 48 to 63 kt has significantly increased...but the specific timing and/or location is still uncertain. NCPD Arrest Woman for Driving Drunk in Oceanside with Kids in Car

The Nassau County Police report the arrest of a Rockville Centre woman for Driving While Intoxicated violating Leandra’s Law on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 4:15 P.M. in Oceanside.

Oceanside, NY - May 24th, 2014 - The Nassau County Police report the arrest of a Rockville Centre woman for Driving While Intoxicated violating Leandra’s Law on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 4:15 P.M. in Oceanside.
 
According to police, a witness observed Corina Rusu, 36, of 6 Olive Court, driving erratically to the Stop & Shop located at 465 Atlantic Avenue.  The witness called police who responded and observed the suspect and her son, 2 years of age, inside the store.  Rusu was stopped as she exited the store and after showing signs of intoxication was placed under arrest.  She was transported to Police Headquarters for further testing.  The child was picked up from the scene by his father.  No injuries were reported.
 
Rusu is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (child under 15) in violation of Leandra’s Law and Driving While Intoxicated.  She will be arraigned on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at First District Court in Hempstead.
