"Winter Storm Warning" ...Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 7 PM this evening to 6 PM EST Monday... * locations...the New York City and New Jersey metropolitan areas...northern Nassau and northwest Suffolk counties...and southeastern coastal Connecticut. * Hazard types...snow...sleet and freezing rain. * Accumulations...snow accumulation of 2 to 5 inches...along with 1 to 2 tenths of an inch of ice. Highest snow and ice amounts will be across northern portions of the New York City and New Jersey Metro and northern portions of Long Island. * Timing...tonight through Monday. Heavy snow late tonight into early Monday morning...changing to heavy rain and/or freezing rain...then changing back to a wintry mix in the afternoon. Snowfall range could be 1 to 2 inches higher or lower based on timing of changeover in the morning. * Winds...east winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph in the morning. Northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph late Monday. * Temperatures...in the lower 30s. * Visibilities...one quarter mile or less at times late tonight into early Monday morning. * Snowfall rates...occasionally 1 to 2 inches per hour late Sunday night into early Monday morning. * Impacts...hazardous travel due to reduced visibilities and significant snow and ice accumulations for the early Monday morning commute. Untreated roadways will likely become icy for the Monday evening commute. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an emergency. Holiday Getaway Starts Friday with Extra Early PM Eastbound Service.

Long Island, NY - May 21st, 2014 - MTA Long Island Rail Road will provide eight additional early-afternoon train service from Penn Station on Friday, May 23 for customers planning an early start to the Memorial Day Weekend. 
 
Babylon Branch 
  • 2:32 PM express to Lynbrook, and then all stops to Babylon
  • 3:00 PM stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, and then all stops to Babylon.
  • 3:31 PM express to Rockville Centre, and then all stops to Babylon

Port Jefferson Branch 

  • 2:08 PM stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, then all stops to Huntington.
  • 2:29 PM stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, then all stops to Huntington.
  • 3:24 PM stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville. 
Port Washington Branch 
  • 3:40 PM stopping at Woodside, Flushing Main St., and then all stops to Great Neck

Far Rockaway Branch 

  • 3:48 PM express to Locust Manor then all stops to Far Rockaway.
