SCPD: Motorcyclist Killed in Crash
North Lindenhurst, NY - May 19, 2014 - Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in North Lindenhurst this morning.
Douglas Shapiro was operating a 2013 BMW motorcycle northbound on North Wellwood Avenue when he was sideswiped by a 2007 Chrysler, driven by Maria Martinez, at 8:05 a.m.
Shapiro, 45, of Lindenhurst, who was thrown from his motorcycle, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip via North Lindenhurst Rescue where he was pronounced dead. Martinez, 38, of West Babylon, was not injured.
This investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone who has information to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
